2:23pm Sunday 1st September 2013 in News
Building work had taken place throughout the summer to improve the school, which was built in 1968.
“It was to enable the school to grow,” said headteacher Sandra Way.
Mrs Way was the first to be called about the fire and stayed on the scene until nearly 10pm on Saturday, returning again today.
She said: “Our school was very much at the heart of our community.
“We are devastated at what has happened.
“Our primary concern is to make sure the children get back to school as soon as possible.
“Essex County Council is working very closely with us to put arrangements into place.”
She said staff had been coming in and were “very upset.”
“I would like to thank the community for their support and their good wishes,” said Mrs Way.
“We have had a lot of good wishes.”
