Brother and sister complete 400-mile charity bike ride
3:00pm Friday 30th August 2013 in News
A BROTHER and sister battled with broken bikes and torrential rain to ride more than 400 miles for charity.
Endre Hanák, 17, St Andrew Avenue, Colchester, and his sister Tünde, 28, spent seven days cycling from Ardrossan in Scotland to Colchester.
The pair, who were joined by Tünde’s husband János Zergényi, 35, finished their challenge last week.
Endre, who is a student at The Sixth Form College Colchester, said: “We found this trip a truly magnificent journey and it certainly had its ups and downs.
“It was a great experience to see more of this country and visit areas that we haven’t before.”
The group faced a series of challenges during the 400-mile journey, resulting in one phone call to Northern Rail for bike repairs and one trip to a walk-in health centre for Tündi to have her eye washed out.
Andre said: “Our luck seemed to reverse on a daily basis and if anyone is planning to complete a similar challenge they should be prepared to deal with both physical and mental barriers.”
They decided to attempt the fundraiser to raise cash for Cancer Research UK, and hope to collect £500 for the cause through sponsorship.
“We were very happy to raise this money and would like to really thank everyone for supporting and sponsoring us.”
