Flats evacuated after car torched
3:36pm Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News
FLATS were evacuated after a car loaded with a gas cannister was torched.
Families fled from Robinia Court, off Blackthorn Avenue, Colchester, after a white Peugeot 106 was deliberately set on fire.
The arson attack took place just after 11pm last night.
Firefighters from Colchester, who spent an hour tackling the blaze, had to take extra care because of the danger of the cannister exploding and police closed the road.
A spokesman for Essex police confirmed it is being treated as arson and detectives are investigating any possible motive.
A forensic examination will also be carried out to find out whether a petrol bomb or a different accelerant was used.
Anyone with information call detectives at Colchester police station on 101.
