Maldon: Fears over Little Braxted quarry plans
5:00pm Saturday 24th August 2013 in News
Farmland is set to become a quarry under council plans.
Land at Colemans Farm, in Little Braxted, has been earmarked in Essex County Council’s Replacement Local Minerals Plan, which lists sites for gravel extraction up to 2029.
About 2.5million tonnes could be dug up at the 46 hectare site over 14 years, after which the land could be used as a nature conservation area or for recreation.
Gordon Mussett, clerk to Little Braxted Parish Council, said: “Looking at ECC's criteria, we don't believe that a safe access can be provided to the highways network - nobody would claim that either the Rivenhall junction nor Witham North junction are safe for 40 tonne HGV's to use to access the A12.”
