Hundreds get heating system repaired during hottest summer in years
5:00pm Monday 19th August 2013 in News
MORE than 200 households in Colchester have had heating repairs completed during the hottest summer in seven years.
In July, the npower Health Through Warmth scheme carried out more that £15,500 worth of repairs for vulnerable homeowners.
The scheme offers people with cold-related illnesses on a low income help and funding to carry out work such as installing a new boiler or heating system.
Elaine Midwinter, scheme manager, said: “We were surprised by the hundreds of homeowners turning to Health Through Warmth for help during such a hot spell.
“However, it’s extremely positive that Colchester’s residents are looking ahead and preparing their homes for the colder weather.”
She added: “With August off to the hottest start in seven years, we hope this trend will continue for the remainder of the summer so people are not caught out by the return of cold weather later in the year.”
Since the scheme began in 2000, 80,400 vulnerable people have received help around the UK.
