NEW plans to convert Colchester’s iconic water tower have won support from Gazette readers.
Developer George Braithwaite wants to divide Jumbo into 11 levels for offices, flats, a restaurant and a museum.
The Grade II* Victorian building’s legs would be encased in glass and a lift would be installed to take the visitors to the top level.
The plans, if agreed, would also see the water tank at the top transformed into a museum and visitors would be given access to the observatory at the top to get views across north Essex.
A poll run on the Gazette website had 80 per cent in favour of the £3 million scheme - 509 readers.
However, 131 voted against the scheme.
