WOMEN have been warned not to walk alone close to Essex University’s Wivenhoe campus after three were sexually assaulted.

Police have stepped up patrols after the series of late-night incidents involving the victims, aged between 19 and their early 20s.

Two have been confirmed as students at the university.

All three gave police the same description of a man who approached them.

Jim White, Acting Chief Inspector at Colchester Police, said: “There have been three incidents around the area of the university since May 4.
“They have occurred in the evenings between 10pm and 12am.

“We are concerned about this kind of incident and will be putting out a very visible presence in the area in an attempt to deter the offender and apprehend him.

“I would ask any female in the area to consider walking with others and to be aware of their surroundings when they are out and about in the Lightship Way and Boundary Road area for the next few nights.”

Chief Insp White added he was confident the suspect would be found and arrested.

The man is described as skinny, between 5ft, 8 ins tall and 5ft, 10 ins tall and of Chinese ethnicity.

He has short dark hair, aged in his early 20s and wears a dark coloured tracksuit.
