UKIP will contest every Essex County Council seat for the first time.

The anti-EU party will go head-to-head with the Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dems, UKIP and the Green party in every ward in Colchester and Tendring.

Stuart Agnew, UKIP MEP in the east, said: "We are no longer a fringe party. The other parties had better watch out."

In addition, the Tendring First party has fielded a candidate in every seat in Tendring.

Compelling clashes include the Henderson brothers - Labour's Ivan and the Community Representatives' Steven - who will contest the Harwich seat.

Former Tendring Council leader Terry Allen will hope to re-enter politics by winning the Brightlingsea seat for the Tendring First party.

Sue Lissimore will represent the Conservatives in Colchester's Drury ward, replacing retiring Jeremy Lucas for the Tories.

There will also be at least five new faces in Tendring because Tories Stephen Mayzes (Clacton West), Chris Griffiths (Clacton North), Sarah Candy (Tendring Rural West), Linda Mead (Clacton East) and Derek Robinson (Brightlingsea) are not contesting their seats.

The poll takes place on May 2.
