THE Essex Air Ambulance has been called to Colchester's High Street after a motorbike and pedestrian were involved in a collision.

Police officers and paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 1pm on Monday.

A woman in her 70s was injured and taken to hospital.

The High Street has been closed until further notice for forensic teams to arrive.

Officers are unable to say when it will be reopened.

Update 3pm:

A police spokesman said: "Two people have been arrested in connection with this incident and are currently being booked into custody.

"The woman was airlifted to Colchester General Hospital after sustaining serious leg injuries. She is in a stable condition."

Update 4.50pm:

Essex Police say the High Street should reopen at 5pm.

They reveal the two arrested men are 18 and 20, are both from Colchester, and are being questioned at Colchester Police Station on suspicion of dangerous driving.
