Cyclist hurt in town centre accident Cyclist hurt in town centre accident

A CYCLIST has been seriously injured after an accident on Southway.

It is believed the cyclist has fallen 15 feet off the road into a subway.

The cyclist has been flown by air ambulance to Colchester General Hospital.

Police are investigating the incident.

I wonder if it was the one that was racing along Old Heath/Military Road about 12 ish? He was wearing a black leather jacket & was going like stink. I managed to get by him on the Grenadier bend but he caught me up on the nearside on St.Bots/Southway roundabout. I lost him on the straight,but that guy was on a mission.
PS. I was in a car btw.

The traffic camera on Southway shows two cars parked by subway from St Johns Green with yellow jackets in subway.


Second accident involving cyclist going into the subway there.

Apparently it happened not long after 12, so you may well be right.

I understand the subway in question is the one at St John's Green/Abbey Gate Street.

Elsewhere reported that happened at 1240 and cyclist is aged 70.

No way, this was a stocky fit young guy with black cropped hair. I wondered how he could go so fast in such cold weather.

Just read the eadt report ,the time was right but it was a different bike. My one had cleared the subway at speed the last time I saw him. Hope the old guy pulls thru.

Yes, about 2 years ago. It was a young man at that time, and he ended up in hospital. I don't think we heard the outcome.

Just seen a photo and can't quiet work out how that could have happened. Surely the wall should have stopped him.
