Kidney cake and colourful Zumbathon mark health day

A ZUMBATHON and a kidney-shaped cake will mark a health day in Colchester this Thursday.

West Bergholt mother-of-two Nat Southwell, a friend of renal nurse Nikkie Brownlie, has baked the unusual creation which will be on display at Colchester Primary Care Centre on Thursday.

The Turner Road centre holds the Colchester Dialysis Centre, run by Fresenius Medical Care with Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust.
Members of the public can pay 50p to name and potentially win the cake.

Consultant kidney specialist Dr Cserep Gabor said the aim was to raise awareness about kidney health.

Dr Gabor and colleagues will give advice and carry out blood pressure and BMI checks during the day.

There will also be a purple-themed Zumbathon by staff, a tombola, raffle, cake sale and children’s lucky dip.

Money raised will be donated to Kidney Research UK.
