ARMY bases in Colchester will not house troops recalled from Germany.

But the future of its military has been assured after confirmation it will represent one of seven major army territories in the Army 2020 plan.

It was thought Colchester would receive returning troops and was in-line for redevelopment after the Ministry of Defence listed the town on its website.

But the MOD has confirmed that most returning families will be stationed in the East Midlands and Salisbury Plain.

The future of Merville Barracks, home to 16 Air Assault Brigade, has been safeguarded as Mr Hammond unveiled his vision for Army 2020.
