Ear lobe bitten off in High Street attack

BOUNCERS and taxi drivers searched for part of an ear which had been bitten off during an attack.

The victim's ear lobe was ripped off during the assault near the taxi rank in Colchester High Street.

Taxi drivers and security staff rushed to the assistance of the 20-year-old man and one of them found the severed section of ear nearby.

The ear lobe and the man were both taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.

Surgeons sewed the piece of ear back on in an emergency operation.

Today police appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

The attack happened at 2.50am yesterday **sun march 3**.

I feel sorry for the lad that this happened to but the publicity and police involvement makes me angry. Taxi drivers on that rank are verbally assaulted and physically assaulted so much but they never have appeals like this. WHY? when was the last time you heard about an appeal to catch a piece of scum that's beaten up a taxi driver on the rank. But looks like the police need the drivers when it's good for them. Ie finding the lads ear. Or when vulnerable people go missing or something is stolen from a shop and they sit and look thro the drivers CCTV. Rant over.

Most of the taxi drivers I know would always stop to help someone injured or in a vulnerable place. But you are right that you don't see the appeals for the guys that provide such a safe service when they need the help.
