Councillor rage over road condition

A CRUSADING councillor has compiled a 20 page dossier of problems along one road in Colchester.

Dave Harris has labelled Berechurch Hall Road one of the worst he has seen and, to prove his point, noted all the issues and sent them to Essex County Council.

And the approach appears to have worked with the council already getting to work to fix them.

Find out about the catalogue of faults in Monday's Gazette.

Good man! I mentioned this road last week - its a joke that its taken this long to get something done about it though. I actually avoid this road even if it means a longer journey to bypass it.

I drive along it but I keep my speed down. So far so good.
Anyway, good luck to Dave Harris in getting the repairs done. And if he succeeds, it will help his challenge if he tries again for election to the county council.
Of course, we can expect lots of road repairs during March, the traditional month for fixing potholes, as ECC spends its unused money before the end of its financial year.

I complained to the County about this road and they told me it is scheduled into the works programme, the money has been allocated, and it will be done shortly. So as Boris suggests, when the work gets done it will indeed help his challenge in the election. He's a very clever operator it seems - what timing!! By the way, why isn't there a photograph of him?

Such cynicism! Dave Harris is one of very few Colchester Councillors, of any political persuasion, to campaign tirelessly for his constituent area. He is the only Councillor who is always walking the estates and listening to the constituents (for the first time in more than five years a Tory flyer came through my door recently - there's opportunism for you!) Meanwhile the Lib Dem's locally are always jumping on the bandwagon after Dave has highlighted the problems. I can understand some people's disappointment with certain aspects of New Labour but Dave has Old Labour values indelibly printed through him. Well done, Dave, for your selfless and stalwart work for Berechurch and good luck in the elections - you deserve all the votes you get!

Incidentally, Sir Robert McAlpine group were, I am led to believe, supposed to have made good Berechurch Road after their extensive building work (including the hideous temporary 'troll bridge' which spanned the road near Earlswood Way). The road first fell into disrepair at that time (some years ago now) and it has since got steadily worse. Meanwhile works which have been carried out locally in the past few months have already been lifted and are back to their worst - see the bottom end of Queen Mary Avenue/King George Road where the 'repair' consisted of some surface asphalt which disappeared within a couple of months. Perhaps the County should be questioning the contractors about this ridiculously shoddy work and putting real money into real repairs.

Dave is in the paper practically every day. He must be second only to Bob Russell in getting his picture in the paper.

Recently residents of the near-by housing estate were calling for a 20mph speed limit on beerchurch hall road...Perhaps preserving the pot holes are the councils answer.

No need for putting in costly traffic calming measures..(speed bumps)..
'Sorry' I'm being cynical..

Nothing cynical about that, only that estate doesn't have the problem of pot-holes in it.

Difference is that Dave is actually doing something but Russell (sorry SIR Bob) is only self-aggrandizing himself!
