Beware suspicious activity. Burglars operating in Colchester
6:14pm Thursday 28th February 2013 in News
RESIDENTS are being urged to watch out for suspicious activity after two more burglaries in Colchester.
Police want homeowners to report any unusual activity in their streets following a burglary and attempted burglary in the town where suspicious people were spotted in the area prior to both break-ins.
On Saturday thieves forced the front door of a house off Eastwood Drive, Highwoods, at about 11.30am.
An alarm was activated and the thieves scarpered.
Shortly before a man was seen on a bicycle apparently paying attention to the houses at around midnight prior to the burglary.
The second break-in occurred at a house in St Cyrus Road between 7.45am and 8.15pm the next day.
Thieves forced a rear patio door to the property and made an untidy search of the house.
They stole jewellery, valued at several thousand pounds, including rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings and watches.
During the same period suspicious males were cold calling around the neighbourhood.
Officers are urging anyone who spots suspicious activity or has details on either burglary to call Colchester police station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
