Driver raises fuel quality concerns

A DRIVER is concerned a bad batch of diesel has been sold around Colchester.

Andy Jones had the fuel filter replaced on his Ford Mondeo during a routine MoT, but was shocked to find several other cars of different makes and models were being repaired for the same fault at his garage.

Mr Jones, of Ford Street, Aldham, said: "It was the third breakdown this year and I do a lot of miles so it was not a nice feeling. But when they said it was the fuel filter and could be a bad batch of fuel I am now hoping it is."

Mr Jones said he could recall which petrol stations he had used but did not want to name them without further evidence.

modern winter diesel has addatives to ensure it never waxes during cold weather, but some competetive pricing at supermarkets has seen bio diesel being added also.
If the fuel filters have become blocked thus rendering the engine supply compromised, it may have been the bio additive, or not enough winter additive leaving the fuel thickening.

Fuel filters are commonly overlooked at regular service intervals, maybe this was the cause? Or maybe it's because people are running their vehicles too low on fuel before refilling, this would pick up all the residue & gunk from the bottom of the tank.

Im a taxi driver and do thousands of miles a year. I used to only fill up and tesco highwoods until a recent engine problem caused by contaminated fuel. I spoke to tesco and they blamed the cold weather. Would be very interested to knoe which garages u feel are involved as I would like to take the matter further

My partner had a bill for £800 when his car was damaged by diesel bought from Tesco. The garage even gave us a sample of the contaminated fuel, which quite clearly had black particles in. He wrote to head office twice and they basically fobbed us off and took no responsibility for this at all......big greedy company.....as someone said on here....probably horse meat in it!

I used to buy my petrol from supermarkets until my engine started to cut out, the scariest time being in the fast lane of the A12 and suddenly having no engine. When I took it to be repaired they advised me they thought it was the petrol and did I buy cheap petrol from the supermarkets. Apparantly they don't put in all the extras that normal petrol stations do hence they are cheaper. I have only bought from petrol stations since then and haven't had a problem since.

Filling at supermarkets is false economy.
I started using super market fuel as it seemed cheaper, I soon found I was using a tank of fuel, some times more, extra per month, so it worked out more expensive.

I used to drive HGV's and the company stopped us from filling at supermarket fuel outlets, cheaper over the counter maybe, but it was costing him hundreds, if not thousands, of lost mileage over the year

I have recently had a major issue with my vauxhall corsa cdti which my vauxhall mechanic blamed on the tank of diesel I filled up with.
Fuel pump went. Vauxhall cost for new part, labour and re-programme was £1,370. My mechanic has told me to get the fuel checked as he believes it was the sole cause of the problem due to the car being very well maintained prior to this issue. Caused me time off work as I work long distances and still have to pay to get the fuel drained and examined. Total cost probably £2,000 and the inconvenience of this has been an absolute nightmare!
Kept my receipt Pump 8 diesel, Tesco at the hythe. Let's name and shame these bandits. I suppose it's to be expected when they can't even guarantee what's in a beef burger anymore.
Please keep everyone informed as this article is not investigative and we all need to know more. Anyone else with these issues please ad a message.

Worst part about it for me was the fact that I made a formal complaint and was advised by the manageress Who I won't name out of courtesy but she assured me it wasn't the fuel and I quote was "was an impossibility to be contaminated" wish I recorded her.

I will take this lot all the way, trading standards, court etc. anyone who supplies a product to the public that is not fit for use should accept the consequences they appear to not want to know.
Any help and advice much appreciated.
