Old jewellery stolen in home raid

BURGLARS smashed their way into a home and stole jewellery worth hundreds of pounds.

Police were called to Holly Road, Stanway, Colchester, on Thursday.

Thieves smashed a rear window at the home and took a large quantity of jewellery, much of which was more than 50-years-old, sometime between 9am on Wednesday and 10.20am on Thursday.

Det Con Hannah Richardson said: "I would like to appeal to companies or jewellers who buy gold around the Colchester area to contact me if they have anyone bringing in large amounts of jewellery, particularly if the majority of it is well over 50 years old.”
