8,139 Colchester claimants sent tax bill letter
10:51am Tuesday 12th February 2013 in News
MORE than 8,000 Colchester claimants have been told they must pay more council tax.
Letters have been sent out to 8,139 residents whose Council Tax Benefits will be cut by on average £200 a year from this April.
The government has given local councils the responsibility of dishing out the benefits, while cutting the funding available to claimants.
Colchester Council has £10 million to award claimants in 2013/14, down from £12 million this year.

We are all having to manage on less, with ever increasing prices for food, fuel, transport and utilities with the vast majority of people not having an increase in wages now for 5 years. If these claimants don't pay more for the services, that we all use, then who is going to make up the shortfall because increasing council taxes for the rest of us is not acceptable!

But - Most people would not ignore suicidal risk over finance - shows how tough some people are --- Never mind - say it as it is

Well what else do you suggest Mr Harris? Playing the politics game are we?

7 pence a week was the intended rise by Council, but thats been avoided by Government financial patch

I had to go and talk to a person who was suicidal over not know how they were going to cope - Disabled, and affected by bedroom tax and council tax....
Then a working couple, told me they would be on the bread line after April due to the changes....
