TWO motorists were hurt after a Landrover ploughed into a car which is thought to have pulled over on the A133 after running out of petrol.

The road was closed in both directions following the incident, which happened between Weeley roundabout and the junction of Progress Way on Friday morning.

It is understood a Vauxhall Vectra had pulled over after running out of petrol, following which it was hit by a Landrover Freelander.

A spokesman for Essex Police said emergency services were called to the scene at 8.50am.

The woman, who was driving the Vauxhall Vectra, had to be freed by fire crews using hydraulic cutting equipment, before she was taken to Colchester General Hospital for further treatment.

A man driving the Landrover was also hurt and was treated by paramedics at the scene before also being taken to hospital Both injuries were described as not being life-threatening.

Motorists were caught in delays as the road was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the crash and the vehicles were recovered.
