Colchester business park is beating the economic blues
1:09pm Tuesday 5th February 2013 in News
A BUSINESS park in north Colchester has defied the recession and is now fully let.
Easter Park opened just over four years ago and now all ten units covering 132,760 sq ft have been let or sold.
The latest business to move on to the site off the A12 is Argo (Cargomasters).
Managing director Ray Stephens said the firm was delighted to be able to move back to Colchester from Hadleigh and had hopes of expanding the business.
Argo (Cargomasters), a freight forwarder specialising in express transport jobs, has taken over two units.
One is used for distribution and Mr Stephens said the firm also hopes to increase its storage and packing role.
Mr Stephens said the business park’s position next to the new A12 junction was crucial in the firm’s decision to relocate.
He said: “The main reason we moved here is because it is geographically correct.
“We run a delivery service covering most parts of London as well as the Midlands and the North West.
“The position next to the junction is fundamental to our decision to move here."
"I live in south Colchester and I have more congestion in the journey across town than getting out on to the trunk road.
“We employ 15 people locally and may increase that in the future.
“I have lived in Colchester for 30 years and we are pleased to be doing our bit for the town.”
Other firms at Easter Park include kitchen manufacturers and designers Lubina, Key Action Sports which distributes paintballing equipment, painting and decorating contractors M R Currell and electrical wholesalers Audio Visual.
Peter Taylor, the director of the Easter Development Partnership, said: “Easter Park is a success story.
“The location on the A12 is important and has become sought after.
“We are now moving on to phase two of the development which has planning consent for just under 80,000 sq ft.
“We have two parties wanting to purchase or let accommodation and that site."
An application for a VW showroom and workshop is with the planners now.
