A NORTH Essex football team for adults with learning disabilities is set to represent the county in the FA Disability Cup.

The team, which has been going for five years, has received a bye into the quarter finals, due to be played later this month.

Set up by occupational therapist, Carolyn Rogers, of Anglian Community Enterprise, and community nurse, and Mo Seeraullee, the team represents Colchester, Clacton and Witham.

The 11-a-side tournament will finish with the final being played at the new FA training group at St George’s Park, in Burton, in March.

Mrs Rogers said: “We are fully committed to enabling people with a learning disability to play football and have made great strides since we launched five years ago.

“Being selected to represent Essex is a huge feather in our caps and all the players are so excited.”

Each of the 15-strong squad must produce a certificate, which details their disability, before they can play.
