Man killed in two-vehicle smash

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road collision in Writtle, near Chelmsford.
Two vehicles - a silver Citroen Xsara and a silver Volkswagen Caddy - collided just before 6.45pm yesterday on the A414 Ongar Road, near to Cooksmill Green.
The driver of the Citroen, believed to be a man in his 30s from Chelmsford, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman driver of the van suffered serious leg injuries and was taken by ambulance to Broomfield Hospital.
The road was closed until about midnight while initial investigations were carried out.
