Wivenhoe surgery faces fresh delays
2:56pm Wednesday 30th January 2013 in News By Will Lodge
HOPES for a new GP surgery in Wivenhoe face further delays after an investor confirmed it was backing out of the scheme.
Boots confirmed it would not put a pharmacy in a new medical centre proposed on land next to the fire station, in Colchester Road.
Health chiefs and politicians had hoped to reverse the company’s decision to renew a lease at its existing site in Vine Parade. The decision means there is now a financial black hole in the surgery project.
However a working group behind the surgery plans say the fire station site, which uses land owned by local farmer Charles Gooch, is still the preferred option.
- More details of a meeting of the working group are expected to be released later this week.
