Firefighter's safe driving school wins Michelin award

Fireman Karl Rushen and his business partner Gary Lipman set up Streetlife 18 months ago after dead bodies became too regular a sight when he attended road accidents.
A FIREFIGHTER who decided road deaths were getting out of hand and started his own driving school has been given a national award.
Fireman Karl Rushen and his business partner Gary Lipman set up Streetlife 18 months ago after dead bodies became too regular a sight when he attended road accidents.
His work has been recognised by Michelin, which has crowned him its Road Safety Champion.
The classes, based at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, is aimed at teaching new, young drivers how to negotiate busy junctions, roundabouts and how to handle speed before they start to drive on the public road.
At the first session, there were 27 pupils, now the class regularly expects 115 on the first Sunday of each month.
Mr Rushen said: “We don’t do it for recognition, but it is great we’ve been recognised.”
