Essex University bucks downward application trend
8:00pm Wednesday 23rd January 2013 in News
ESSEX University is bucking the national trend by recording a five per cent increase in applications compared with a general decline in national application numbers.
The increase compares well to the drop, reported by UCAS, the system through which students apply for university.
Nathan Bolton, Student Union President at Essex University, said: “That applications to Essex have risen, despite national decline, is highly encouraging.
“The university is a fantastic environment for living and learning with a vibrant tradition and our Students' Union is central to that.”
Professor Jules Pretty, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, added: “We are continuing to improve and develop our facilities and services to support our commitment to offering outstanding campus-based learning experiences to our students.”
Over recent years, more than £200million has been spent on improving the university and has helped it become one of the top 20 in England for student satisfaction.

Perhaps the gazette could investigate further and publish the percentages.
If it is an increase due to foreign students then the information given in this article is misleading to say the least.
We should be informed of whether the exorbitant fees being charged to our indigenous students are causing them to forgo higher education.
