A POLICE officer has issued a fresh appeal for information after arsonists set fire to a caravan in Colchester.

Police and fire crews were called to Rockhampton Walk to find Roy Griffiths's caravan ablaze.

The disabled pensioner had managed to pull the caravan away from his home.

The caravan, which contained keepsakes such as pictures and letters, was destroyed.

Police were called to the drama at 8.30pm on Sunday.

It is believed entry was forced to the caravan and it was then set alight from inside.

PC Martin Willsher said: "The victim was extremely fond of the caravan and a great deal of time had been spent refurbishing it and fitting it out.

"The evening this incident took place was when the heaviest snow fall took place in Colchester in the recent cold weather. Large numbers of people were out in the area playing in the snow so we are hoping that somebody saw something."

Anyone with information about the fire can call Essex Police on 101.
