KFC faces struggle after as parish objects to plans (From Gazette)

oooh KFC! Right on my way home from work too!! Lovely! Bring it on!

Used to be mouth-watering and "different", but now KFC's chicken seems to be stringy, "wet" and the covering like peppery grit. The fries are without any perceptible taste.

So very sorry for anyone who finds this stuff tasty!! I guess it takes all sorts?

I very seldom need a takeaway, and if fortunate to be near a good f&c shop when I do, then that is always the best bet.

There's probably a straight forward answer to this, but what does this have to do with Ardleigh?

KFC is definitely not my thing, but horses for courses.

I fail to see how a property would be de valued because there is a take away down the road. I too live on a main rd and have to deal with noise, heavy traffic and fumes. I bought the house because of its convienience and not inspite of it. If people want to live on the main rd, a new take away is not going to devalue the property.

Bcause that part of Ipswich Road is in Ardleigh (TDC). Strange though that is.

With you Super, but you forgot to add it would be next to a pub and have industry and car dealerships surrounding it. We are not talking 'leafy' Ardleigh but the top end of the Ipswich Road in Colchester near the junction of the A12/A120. Wish the Gazette would have clearly said where it was.

Do the residents think their objections are going to make any difference? It's a done deal! Do they not realise that the chaos surrounding the roadworks on the Ipswich Road was for the building of this takeaway? TDC will undoubtably rubber stamp this application or have to give the money back. Question,who paid for the road alterations?

20 protestors -wow!! I suspect many thousands are in support of the KFC in this mainly industrial area. How could a property be devalued more when it is already stuck beside the A12/A120 trunk roads and in an area adjoining the Severalls industrial park & many car dealerships?

There are many reasons to object to Kentucky Fried Chicken, but not house prices. How sad that these people should be so obsessed.

Agree Boris. hardly going to affect prices as it's an industrial area anyway. If not KFC it will be another business.

The odd thing really is that this piece of land in TDC not CBC when in Colchester as far as any one is concerned.

Fortunately KFC have plenty of money to throw at this and local councillors love a back hander, this plan will go ahead.

Agree with both of you. Personally, I´d rather eat somebody else´s vomit than tuck into a KFC/BK/Macdonalds, but clearly there is demand for this stuff, so of course they want to build this.

If it was a quiet residential road, they´d probably be able to object, but they´re already on a main road next to an industrial area. The chances are that the houses were a bit cheaper to being with, for that reason.

KFC should be made responsible for clearing up litter around the site, although of course if people drive away with their food, the onus is on the customers not to litter the wider area.

If the place does get approved, the residents will be better to work with KFC, rather than simply object to everything. They will get further that way.

So now here is the sensible way forward, you let the chicken shop open it provides much needed jobs and taxes to the state. You also let all the kiddies coming home from school benefit from a 99p chicken fillet bun in cold weather.
Simple math really, but of course the wannabe middle class hyacinth buckets dont want it here do they? why I ask.
Business and commerce is the order of the day and the way forward.
You will find it hard to cook chicken that tasty at home and with the current fuel increase prices that economically too.

What's the big deal. KFC is like a woman, once you get past the tender breast and the juicy thigh your just left with a wet greased box to put your bone in.

I do feel for any children "coming home from school" to a 99p chicken bun in cold weather. Even a 50somethingpence can of soup along with a slice of bread or toast would be tastier. A fantastic helping of home made chicken soup with large chunks of chicken can also be produced very economically and can contain a deal of vegetables.

You can make bucket-loads of soup for not very much money. Of course, the kids would always go for the KFC, but it´s up to the parents to give them a broad range of food from a young age. I accept this is easier said than done with many kids, my own included!

The idea that we should feed the kids a chicken bun every day is not a good one. Fast food should be an occasional treat, not something which is eaten every day.

as for the chicken bun the kids tuff one f these in their orifices on the way home from school like i used to with my ham and pickle buns from a corner shop i barrack street in the 70's.. it was not meant to be food replacement that can be eaten at home...
anyone idiot can make soup and scald themselves in the process then end up in hospital for 7 months like myself with 35% burns on my torso...
jest aside it is not about soup or 99p buns, the issue is about freedom of choice, nimby ism is taking away freedom of choice for everyone... you choose to be thick and make crass rude remarks about others without the correct knowledge on the subject matter that is freedom of choice...i choose to oppose what you say with a similar response that is freedom of choice... freedom of choice is not a lynch party showing their mugs off in the rag stating we dont want a chicken shop here,,,it is hardly frinton on sea...get a life and get real.. and by the way know body can replicate the kentucky brand its a secret thats made billions....chicken cooked at home tastes crap in relation to the price ratio it takes to make a chicken taste good...by the time you have priced a chicken up with all the goodies you must have dough in benefits to pay for it because i cant make a soup with bread or a table d hote' chicken for 99p get real before you shoot your mouth off!!!!

Maybe part of the problem is that not every one can make a bowl of home-made soup. The fact is that a substantial number of people live pretty much entirely on fast food, ready meals, oven chips. Combine that with a lack of exercise and you end up with obesity and health problems later in life.

When you were having your ham and pickle rolls, you probably also spent a fair chunk of your time as a kid running around, cycling, being active. A lot of kids don´t do that any more.

KFC is undoubtedly tasty, and I am sure it would be hard to replicate the flavour precisely at home. But it should be something which is an occasional treat at most.

You´re right, it is freedom of choice, and in a way, peoples´food choices are a much bigger issue. But it does worry me that a substantial number of kids never see their parents cook anything healthy, and so never learn it for when they are parents.

There are many of us who manage to make tasty chicken meals for less than 99p per person. It just takes experience and probably, in the early days, a willingness to listen to one's elders. The same applies to learning to spell!

So far in more than the biblical allotted span of life, I have managed to make a lot of soup without ending up in A&E with 35% burns, and I am not even the offspring of a Michelin starred chef, so obviously started life with a great disadvantage? Despite this, I have survived with very few injuries.

We were not allowed to eat in the street, so even if takeaways had existed in the abundance they do now, we could not have used them to fuel ourselves up on the way home from school. Strangely, I don't feel that I was a deprived child.

Why is it that, when we all have the advantage of knowing which foods are healthy for us and can hardly miss the ads and articles not to mention tv programmes on the subject, the Great British Public cries out in defence of the unhealthy and extravagant?

If they don't build a KFC on this site what will it be used for ? Someone has paid a lot of money for the road alterations to Ipswich Road I would guess its a done deal.
