4:11pm Monday 14th January 2013 in News
A WOMAN was attacked from behind with a piece of wood during an attempted robbery.
Police are appealing for information following the assault and attempted robbery in St Peter’s Street, Colchester at 7.45pm on Saturday.
A man approached the victim and asked to borrow a cigarette lighter outside Charles House.
When she stopped she was attacked from behind by a man armed with a lump of wood.
She was knocked to the ground before the two men tried to rob her.
The woman had fallen onto her bag and they demanded she handed it over but she fought back before the men ran off along St Peter’s Street towards Castle Park and the Dutch Quarter.
The first suspect is white, aged about 17 or 18-years-old and was wearing a dark blue hooded top.
He is about 5ft 9ins tall and thin.
The second suspect, who struck her with the wood, had darker skin and is aged between 17 and 20-years-old.
He had a slight build and was dressed all in black.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “The victim was left very shaken, with minor injuries including bruising which she has had checked out at her doctors surgery.”
Police are hoping to speak to one witness, a man, who was spotted in the area shortly after, or anyone else who witnessed the unprovoked attack.
Anyone with information call Det Con Tim Harris at Colchester police station on 101.

totally ridiculous situation in the borough.
this town has gone feral and needs to be more robustly policed.
what on earth is going on here?
one presumes this is linked to the rampant and ever growing drug culture.
what we need is volunteer private security networks in operation now to patrol and apprehend on a citizens arrest basis.
we have a rights under common law to protect our dignity and freedom it is now time to action these rights for the sake of our well being and safety.

Will happily fight tooth and nail to avoid there being any kind of network of volunteers trying to enforce the law though, for various reasons. What we actually need is less financial cuts in the police budgets to get more trained officers on the streets. The law is pretty complex as it is, the last thing we need is a bunch of self-proclaimed enforcers laying down their interpretation of it.

Try living in Spain for a bit, Police are given much more respect there (and they really will give you a good hiding).

Maybe castration is needed to show them that fact? I know it's not a real world answer, but I really wish it was!

You may always be right but is there any any need for insults? You sound quite female.
Cops do beat people up sometimes, it´s true. Was on the receiving end myself when younger. But it doesn´t make it any less bad that 2 men attack a lone girl. I would hope their friends will do the same to them when they find out: that might have more impact than being caught by the police.
