FOUR by four drivers are being targeted by catalytic converter thieves.

Police are urging residents in Lawford and nearby rural areas to ensure their cars are locked after four were hit in a week.

Overnight December 28 and 29 catalytic converters were stolen from a Ford Ranger in The Street, Bradfield, and from a Toyota Hilux in Bradfield Road, Wix.

Then between midnight and 7.30am on January 1 one was stolen from a Mitsubishi Shogun in Harwich Road Lawford, and between 1.30pm on January 2 and 9am on January 4, another stolen from a further Shogun in Long Road, Lawford.

Neighbourhood officer Pc Jude Currie, said: "We have had an increase in catalytic converter thefts from 4x4 type vehicles in Manningtree and surrounding villages.

"All of the vehicles are being targeted on private driveways in residential areas.

"I would ask residents to be vigilant and make sure their vehicles are secure. Also, anyone who sees people acting suspiciously is asked to contact police.”
