POLICE are investigating possible fraud after members at Colchester Masonic Lodge found a hole in their books.
Masons called in cops after spotting an irregularity in their finances.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Police are investigating following a report that funds had gone missing from a Colchester company.
“Investigations are ongoing into a possible fraud by abuse of position which dates back six years. A man in his 70s has been interviewed in relation to this.”
Brian Wright, spokesman for the Provincial Grand Lodge of Essex, said: “We are helping police with their investigation and co-operating in any way we can. We have to sit and wait to see what their conclusions are.”
