A YOUTH worker and pharmacist are thrilled after their work was recognised in the New Year’s Honours list.
Adrian Killick, 68, and Kaushik Patel, 69, have both been made MBEs by the Queen.
Mr Killick has helped shape generations of youngsters.
He spent the last 50 years working for the Essex Youth Service, giving up hundreds of hours of his time for children in Tendring.
Mr Killick said: “I was told I was going to be made an MBE about a month ago.
“I was surprised more than anything. It was a real shock, but a welcome one.
“It came completely out of the blue but I was absolutely delighted. It still hasn’t quite sunk in. To be awarded with something like this is a real honour."
Kaushik Patel, of St John’s Road, Clacton, runs Jaywick Pharmacy in Broome Way.
Mr Patel was also delighted to be receive an MBE.
“I never expected it to be honest and I don’t know who nominated me,” he said.
