Search for county's new top cop begins

THE search for the county's new top cop will begin immediately.

Current Chief Constable Jim Barker-McCardle announced his decision to leave Essex Police last month.

He told of the decision in a letter to all of the candidates standing for election for police and crime commissioner.

Nick Alston, the new police and crime commissioner, revealed the Chief Constable will leave on May 3 this year.

The search for his replacement will begin immediately.

Job description will include "must be able to manage on a yearly reduced budget, must be thick skinned to take orders from a PCC elected by 10% of eligible voters and must be able to stay in the post long enough to move everyone around and then put them back in the same place when the music stops". Due to cutbacks a knighthood may not be " a given" as with previous Chief Constables.

Candidate must be able to say "Yes" at every request and suggestion. If candidate at any stage says "No , we can't do that " immediate dismissal will be forthcoming , this will allow all other agencies , particularly the NHS sectors to lay blame at the feet of the Police and avoid all criticism.

Not only in Essex, are there vacancies for Chief Constables, look at Suffolk and Hampshire, as well as Avon and Somerset, seems the new crime commissioners have dealt an insulting blow, shame they won't be able to fill those boots of experience and knowledge...
