Vital Colchester link road deal has still not been reached

A DEAL to build a vital link road through north Colchester has still not been reached - 12 months before the route is due to be opened.

Landowners and Essex County Council have been locked in talks to build an extension to the Northern Approach Road through the former Severalls mental health hospital.

But despite holding meetings for the last 12 months, they have failed to reach a deal.

Bet the council is relieved, just the excuse they needed for not starting the park and ride.

Are you really surprised? Noting much has happened in the last 50 years, except:-

By-pass
Firstsite
Football stadium
Loads of new flats
New barracks
New hospital
Filled a few potholes

That's about it really. Nothing much is really going to happen in the next 50 years, except more flats and congestion.

And they wanted Colchester to be called a City. What a dump and S-it hole it is now.

Severalls was a psychiatric hospital.
.
What is a "mental health hospital"?
.
Bring back education for journalists!
.
What a tragedy that the Severalls estate had to be commercialised and built over. In an ideal world it could have been an out of town park, the grounds were lovely.

Any delay is terrible news for North Colchester as we urgently need traffic relief - now that the new A12 junction is already open - and plans to build 3,500 houses are progressing. How have we ended up where we are?

Its to be expected from a Council that is only interested in building flats in the fastest growing town in the UK.

I would guess this is more down to the land owners rather than ECC who have nothing to do with building flats or granting planning permission.

Anything to do with improving life in Colchester is always blocked we should be used to it by now. Obviously the brown envelopes were not big enough, speak to the big local builders they know the going rate. You can build housing estates but not the relief roads to service them, forward thinking at its best!

Why does this not surprise me?

What shambles all the representatives, CBC, ECC landowners etc are.

CBC should have some balls and stop all planned development in North Colchester until road infrastructure resolved

Complete shambles; infrastructure in Colchester is appalling whilst they build, build, build.... more residential developments. You cannot move...

The town centre is awful, no parking unless your rich that's if you can get to a car park through the traffic!! (where is a suitable logical park and ride), bus station is awful...

Chelmsford got it right and was awarded City... well done. Great place.

And its spreading to the villages; Tiptree.. build build build, no planning for infrastructure, roads are crumbling, soon won't be able to move.....

A child could have planned better... isn't it time to learn and grow up....

And lose every expensive appeal. Yes that's the right thing to do.

TheCaptain has point regarding appeals, but the CBC adopted the same attitude with all the new 'bars' in town. Now there is a plethora of them and all their associated problems which probably cost more in the long term.
