A CALL by 200 Greenstead and Shrub End residents for buses to stop near Colchester’s former bus station has been successful.

Elderly passengers used to get off near the old bus station on Queen Street before visiting the pharmacy on Queen Street and internet cafe Compuccino.

But when the replacement facility at Osborne Street opened last month, buses no longer stopped outside the former Keddies.

Now, after 200 residents signed a petition, First Buses, Network Colchester, Essex County Council and Colchester Council have reached an agreement.
Network Colchester’s 1 and 1a services from Greenstead towards Shrub End have this week begun to stop at Queen Street.

The bus company’s 2 and 2c services from Highwoods to Great Horkesley will also serve Queen Street, as will First’s 67 buses heading towards West Mersea.
