AN Olympic time capsule has been buried in Colchester to mark the unveiling of a historic fountain.

The Catchpool Fountain was originally installed in 1930, and was paid for using a £10 donation from the Catchpool family.

During the 1990s, the fountain fell into disrepair and was removed from Castle Park.

But now, as part of the parks and recreation programme, aimed at improving the park experience for visitors, the fountain has been restored and put back in its original position.

Annie Feltham, borough councillor responsible for communities and leisure services, said the fountain is just one of a number of improvements being made to the park.

“The restoration of this water fountain is a tribute to the park’s rich history and this will be made all the more special with the burial of Colchester’s Olympic Torch relay time capsule beside it.”

The fountain was unveiled on Friday.
