CRIMINALS could end up facing the cold hand of the law if plans to stop supplying gloves to police officers are approved.
Despite freezing daytime temperatures and one of the coldest winters in years Essex Police decided now is the right time to discuss cutting the supply.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “An internal discussion was held recently about withdrawing gloves from police issue.
“A decision has yet to be made.”
If approved new officers will have to buy their own and no replacements will be issued for existing officers.
Figures for how much gloves cost have not been revealed however some officers argued they are necessary for police on the beat and the removal won’t make a dent in the £42million of savings needed.
