Councillors to vote on their allowances

CASH given to councillors for their work will be voted on later this week - by councillors.

An independent body has recommended allowances for Colchester councillors remain the same and should only rise in line with inflation under the council’s existing policy.

The Independent Renumeration Panel has also recommended a special allowance paid to members of the licensing committee is halved.

If councillors accept the changes during a full council meeting on Thursday the authority would save £4,264 each year, with changes coming into force from January 1.

What sort of recommendation is that? Do nothing?

A cut should have been proposed in line with the overall targets CBC have to meet. How do they expect their staff and customers to bear the brunt of any cuts if they themselves arent prepared to do the same?

The fact that council employees haven't had pay rise for at least three years because of cuts to budgets and they want a rise in line with inflation..joke.
