A TALENTED student has been awarded a prestigious scholarship.

Micheal Butcher, who is in the final year of a construction management degree at Colchester Institute, in Sheepen Road, has been awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship, in recognition of his leadership qualities in the construction field.

The scholarship is given out every year to one student in the UK who has shown great potential in his early years of studies.

Each college, which is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building, can nominate one student.

Samantha Briggs, an administrator at the Chartered Institute of Building, which runs the scholarship, presented Micheal with a certificate and a cheque for £500.

As part of the scholarship, Micheal must also submit a major work for publication.

Micheal said: “This is a real privilege.

“There are so many good students on this course, not just in the final year but across the Centre for Construction at Colchester Institute, so to win this is very important to me.”
