In today's Gazette: A 12-year-old girl was subjected to a frightening sex attack.

She was grabbed from behind by a man in Distillery Lane, Colchester, and he tried to undo her jeans. The girl struggled free, ran home and raised the alarm.

* Powerlifting pensioner Pat Tombs has wowed judges by smashing a hat-trick of records at the British championships.

Retired nurse Pat, 66, who is nicknamed the Mighty Atom, lifted a whopping 90kgs - almost double her body weight.

* A teenager is in a specialist brain injury unit after being punched in Colchester High Street.

The 18-year-old suffered serious head injuries in the attack outside the George Hotel in the early hours of Sunday morning.

* Robbers stole tens of thousands of pounds after attacking a security guard.

The G4S worker, aged 62, was kicked and punched by the raiders outside Barclays bank in Kingsway, Dovercourt, yesterday at noon.
