A COLCHESTER artist has donated a one-of-a-kind painting to help raise money for charities.

Susan Boddy’s painting, showing shoppers in Trinity Street, will be auctioned to help the town’s Cards for Good Causes shop raise money for a group of charities, including the Balkerne Gardens Trust, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Essex Blind Charity and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Bids are being invited for the work, which is being sold in a silent auction at the shop in Colchester Library, Trinity Square.

Mary Cronin, Cards for Good Causes area organiser, said: “Susan’s painting expertly contrasts the wintry atmosphere of Trinity Street with the warm brickwork of the surrounding buildings and vibrant red shopping bags.

“It’s a beautiful work of art and we are extremely grateful to her for allowing us to auction it to raise money for Cards for Good Causes.”

The painting has also been made into a Christmas card, which is available at the shop.

Mrs Boddy added: “I was delighted to be asked to design a Christmas card for the group and it’s wonderful to think while my street scene will be sent far and wide by people sending season’s greetings, the original painting will also raise money to benefit charities though this silent auction.”

Bids can be made for the work at the shop between 10am and 4pm Monday to Saturday until this Saturday.

The shop is open until December 19.
