Campaigner calls for better bus stops around town
10:00am Saturday 24th November 2012 in News By Will Lodge
A CAMPAIGNER has called for better benches in Colchester’s bus stops.
Rowhedge resident Rachel Martell uses several stops in the town, including one in Queen Street.
But Mrs Martell, 69, wants to see the facilities improved to help elderly and disabled people who may have to wait for long periods of time for rural bus services.
She claims there is not enough shelter or appropriate seating which could lead to falls or injury.

They could always go down to the brand spanking new, £2 million, Colchester Bus Station where seats are plentiful and there is ample shelter from the wind and rain. This new waiting area also doubles up as a purpose built smoking area, so it's multi- purpose!
In time, when the park and ride is built, this State of the Art facility will become a shining example of how a transport hub should look like. I'm sure everyone involved in its development are very proud of their achievements.
No expense has been spared here in providing the very best facilities for Colchester bus users so there is no need to spend more money on any other bus stops in the town.
Yesterday afternoon there were 19 people inside, and 50 to 60 outside. Good job it wasn't raining.

.
Colchester Council repeatedly refused permission for a mobility scooter service at the old bus station. No surprise to find out they still won't give permission at the so called new "bus station".
.
I heard that costs are already estimated at £2.2million with a predicted minimum on top of £300,000 for urgent "improvements". Would appreciate if anyone has found out the detailed costings.
.
Since the redevelopment of the old bus station has been indefinitely delayed - why did it have to close now? Colchester Council is the unacceptable face of public service. Incompetence, arrogance, petty, neantherdal. Shameful.

Others have asked for the cost of the Osborne St abortion, using the Freedom of Information Act, but this has been refused.
