Developer plans homes for football field
A DEVELOPER wants to build homes on a recreation ground in Colchester.
Luton-based company Dishland, which owns Gas Recreation Ground, in Parsons Heath, wants to build the homes on half of the ten-acre site and use the other half for community projects.
Dennis Diggin, director of Dishland, has also pledged to find a new home for Essex Suffolk Border League Gas Rec FC, which has played there for 30 years.
“This is the best thing for the community,” said Mr Diggin.
But Dishland has been warned it faces a battle to get permission for the development.
Paul Smith, borough councillor for St John's, said: "The bottom line is this land is not zoned for housing. It is classified as open space."

CBC must dish this project and tell this company to clear off back to Luton and leave the land to be used for sports.
At the same time, let's not forget that CBC still has a project on the back burner to sell off some of the Eudo Road tennis courts for housing.
If Paul Smith is serious about opposing Dishland, which I hope he is, then he should use his influence on the cabinet to ensure that the threat to Eudo Road is removed.

Enough building Colchester B C . There's no space left. And if it's come to digging up sorts fields to accommodate housing , then we really are to full.
