A PERSON has died after being hit by a train between Marks Tey and Colchester.

Emergency services were sent to Chitts Hill just after 11am on Thursday but the woman was declared dead at the scene.

A spokesman from British Transport Police said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

He said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the woman and inform her family.”

Both lines were closed at Marks Tey but have now been reopened.

The train involved was the 10.25am Thorpe-le-Soken to Liverpool Street service.

Short notice cancellations and delays are expected until at least 2pm.
