Late night shopping starts in Colchester on Wednesday

LATE night shopping will kick off in Colchester on Wednesday night.

Department stores and independent retailers alike will stay open as late as 9.30pm for the five Wednesdays before Christmas.

Shoppers can park at Britannia, Priory Street, Vineyard Street and Napier Road car parks for only 50p after 3pm.

Michelle Reynolds, chair of Colchester’s Christmas Group, said: “We want local people to embrace the town this year, support the festive activities, and more importantly shop locally this Christmas.”

Parking 50p why not make it free. What will encourage more people into Colchester town centre -50p or free. Why cannot Colchester learn from Tendring where parking is free after 10.00 am for local residents at all times of the year.

There parking is just not for christmas

It is a pity the Gazette journalist did not look at the Visit Colchester website as suggested as it even states late night Christmas shopping is every Wednesday from the 14th November 2012.

Do some of you seriously think a nominal charge of 50p will stop people coming into Colchester? What rot!

How do they identify that a car belongs to a local resident? And what does "local" mean?

Well if they are from Tendring I'm guessing the cars would be quite old and run down?
