Broadband upgrade gave me slower speeds

A MAN who upgraded his broadband to get faster download speeds has been left with a faulty connection.

Malcolm Hawkins, of Bobbits Way, Wivenhoe, had BT Infinity installed on September 3 to get speed of 17 Mb/s and unlimited downloads.

But ten weeks and six engineer visits later Mr Hawkins, 55, had broadband speeds of no more than 10 Mb/s - and sometimes no internet at all.

A spokesman for BT said: “We have been in contact to discuss this issue with Mr Hawkins. We are sorry for the problems encountered and we are doing all we can to get his service working correctly as quickly as possible.”

And this is news because?
Wivenhoe gets slower broadband speeds after upgrade = news.
One customer has an issue that's neither life threatening or noteworthy=not news.

No Malcolm Hawkins could have got speeds "up to" 17mb there is no guarantee at all that that would be the speed he would get.

I live "in the sticks" and I get 3.5mb - 4mb i can still surf,download, game online and watch on demand TV with no issues at all.

The quoted speed for Bobbits Way on the BT site is under 17mb anyway so no way the speed would be faster than they say they can provide.

Dear gazette reporters when someone comes to you with a "story" like this why not first ask yourselves "is this really news" and if the answer is no simply don't run it rather than your usual trick of posting it anyway but without any reporter name at the top. If it's so bad you don'rt want credit for it chances are we don't want to read it.

We are with BT on their standard Broadband offering not Infinity and get 10-12 meg all the time in Central Colchester.

I was offline for a couple of hours last week. Do you think I ought to report it to the paper? Good grief. What next? This isn't news, parts of Colchester not able to get Broadband because BT and the council can't agree on a suitable location for the connection box. Yes, that's news. One man in Wivenhoe who isn't getting the speeds he'd hoped for isn't.

Well my neighbour's cat went missing 2 days ago for 6 hours. He very nearly called the news desk as this sort of thing could get on the front page judging by this 'Broadband Exclusive'...

I bought my missus some gear and she didnt look like the model in Ann Summers.

Oh and the Lynx effect isnt real either.
