A PRIMARY school has thrown its weight behind boyband member Greg West.

Chase Lane Primary School in Dovercourt is backing Greg and his X Factor band District 3 to go all the way in the show.

Greg, 18, went to the school and his Year 6 teacher Jude Nash remembers him as a popular musical pupil.

“We noticed he could sing when he was in year 5,” she said.

“All the children were asked to showcase a talent they had and he started to sing.

“In the year 6 Christmas performance I asked him to sing the song Circle of Life from the Lion King and he shone. After that any opportunity for an individual performance we gave to him.

“He was a good all-round pupil. He was very good at football playing in the A team and did very well academically.

“He was very popular with his peers and was a lovely boy.

“We recognised him on television straight away, he hasn’t changed much facially. He came to visit us when he got the part in the Sound of Music in the West End and we knew he had formed a boy band.

“All the pupils know he went to school here and the older children speak about him. We’re all behind him. He’s our local boy done good.”
