Residents call for action soon on Wivenhoe health centre

A NEW health centre for Wivenhoe should be built on land next to the town's fire station say residents.

A public meeting held at the William Loveless Hall, High Street, saw residents and councillors vote in favour of health bosses pressing ahead with original plans for a medical centre on land in upper Wivenhoe.

Campaigners had voiced concerns about new proposals to site a new centre in Cook's Shipyard, at the bottom end of the town. But Richard Warner of Realise Health, the body behind the new site, said it had a duty to look at sites within the settlement boundary before reverting to the fire station site.

He added that plans for a centre at the fire station could be officially launched by the end of March.
