Williams & Griffin refurb plans submitted Williams & Griffin refurb plans submitted

PLANS for a £30million refurbishment of Williams & Griffin have been submitted - and are more ambitious than first reported.

If approved, the landmark store will expand from around 55,000 square feet to more than 90,000 sq ft - bigger than originally discussed.

Architects, Aukett Fitzroy Robinson, are heading the proposals on behalf of Williams & Griffin’s parent company, Fenwick.

Let's hope these plans get approved. This is the only decent store on a highstreet full of charity shops, money lenders, book makers and pound shops.

Yes hopefully the council agrees to these plans, good to see at this time a company looking to invest heavily in the town, maybe when their done they will do up the horrid looking job centre building they brought too

I have no faith in Colchester Council getting anything right and just worry the Council will balls this up and decline proposal or place crazy restrictions on plans.

I think these plans are great and will improve the High Street considerably.

Let's support the best shop in town and get plans approved sooner rather than later

I support the plans for expansion but not that monstrosity shown in the artist's impression. The sun doesn't always shine here and the structure will soon show it's age. Something more in harmony with the surrounding buildings would be appropriate.

I actually like the artist's impression.

This type of building reminds me of Eindhoven where old meets new modern styles very well

Eindhoven? One of the least attractive places I've been to.

The more futuristic the better. The last thing we need is a building that 'fits in'. Structures like the Gherkin and the Shard work beautifully in their respective surroundings. It would also be great if Fenwick's architects could do something to enhance that eyesore Job Centre. I hope these plans are passed.

Council - please approve this!
You only have to see how busy the London commuter trains are becoming to know that the town is becoming more affulent with more money around.
We alone has a high disposable income however do not wish to venture into Colchester to spend as frankly, the types of shops are dispressing!
Having visited W&G for the fist time last week, was impressed however better architecture and a bigger store will surely pull me in further, along with others that want something 'more' from the current Colchester shop offerings!
