A STUDENT has been rushed to hospital for emergency treatment after a fight broke out at the University of Essex.

Police and paramedics were called to the Wivenhoe campus in the early hours of this morning.

Officers believe the victim, an 18-year-old first year student, had her arm slashed repeatedly with a piece of glass.

She has gone to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford and is being treated by plastic surgery specialists.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is being questioned by police.

Part of the campus has been sealed off while investigations continue.
