Hythe community event encourages suggestions to improve Old Port

Improving access at Colchester's Hythe Improving access at Colchester's Hythe

RESIDENTS and visitors to Colchester’s old port can suggest ways to get around the Hythe better at a community event this weekend.

Using European Union funding, Colchester Council has hired designers Dallas Pierce Quintero to work up plans to celebrate the area’s history and improve access to it.

This Saturday, visitors to the Hythe Community Centre can suggest ways of improving links to the Hythe, encouraging better use of public spaces and bringing the heritage of the Old Port alive.

People will be asked how they use the area now and how they would like it to develop in the future between 10am and 4pm.

I think they will build more low quality flats. As many as they can squeeze in. This community event and consultation is simply putting lipstick on a pig.

What we want to see is some high end boutiques, decent restaurants, dredge that foul sewage stinking marshland and create a proper Marina for Colchester. Compulsory purchase of waste land from those seeking to hold out until it is bought for low quality, vastly overpriced flats and make the area more exclusive and up market rather than what it is currently... 'slum landlord' owned flats rented way above market rates to local students.
